TBCo Climate Action Plan
Our Climate Commitment
At TBCo, we are on a mission to shape the future of responsible retail. We believe that creating bold, design-led statement pieces shouldn't come at the cost of the planet, which is why we build our collections with high-quality natural and recycled materials meant to be loved and lived in for years.
As a growing brand, we know every piece we make leaves a mark. This Climate Action Plan is our honest roadmap to keeping that mark as light as possible, outlining the real, measurable steps we are taking to reduce our footprint while continually improving how we create. Crucially, we are fully committed to aligning our reduction strategies with the global ambition to limit temperature rise to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels, in line with the Paris Agreement.
Our Emission Sources
As a retail business operating an office, warehouse, and storefront, our day-to-day operations represent a core part of our carbon footprint. To systematically address our Scope 2, and 3 emissions, we have identified two high-impact operational areas where we can drive reduction:
-
Electricity (Location-Based) - The physical carbon footprint of the power we draw from the regional grid to run our office, warehouse, and store, based on the average emissions of local power plants. All our locations already operate on 100% renewable tariffs, therefore we are assessing by overall consumption drawn from the grid network.
-
Waste - The environmental impact of disposing of trash, cardboard, and recycling from our daily operations, including material sent to landfills.
As a design-led product business, our environmental footprint extends far beyond our local footprint. Because we manufacture and import our designs from a global network of partner factories, a true assessment of our carbon impact must look at our supply chain. To actively reduce these indirect emissions, we have identified two high-impact priority areas within our global production and logistics network:
-
Upstream Supply Chain - The embedded emissions from raw material sourcing and the manufacturing of our products by global partner factories.
-
Upstream Shipping - The carbon footprint generated by transporting finished products from international factories to our local warehouse and store.
Concrete Actions to Reduce Our Impact
To address these emission sources, TBCo has created the following actions to be integrated into our daily operations:
Electricity
-
Conduct a comprehensive energy efficiency walkthrough across our office, warehouse, and store to identify structural energy leaks and operational inefficiencies.
-
Create a workspace energy conservation policy, formally integrating energy-saving practices into our staff handbook and onboarding.
Waste
-
Provide annual employee training on waste reduction, recycling, and its vital role in our Net Zero goals.
-
Implement a single-use elimination policy with an aim to eliminate single-use cardboard and plastic across the warehouse and retail store. This policy will be formalized and distributed to all staff.
Upstream Supply Chain
-
Expand on our existing, in-house supplier analysis framework, which rates partners on their sustainable practices and environmental impact.
-
Formalise and provide internal training on a set of Sustainable Design Principles to ensure any products that progress past the ideation stage meet strict sustainability criteria.
-
Continue to develop and formalise a climate engagement plan with our top 3 suppliers, focusing on mapping their current energy baselines, sharing carbon-reduction best practices, and encouraging their transition toward renewable energy and zero-waste manufacturing.
-
Optimise and reduce packaging materials used across online retail order fulfilment to directly reduce the upstream manufacturing emissions of our packaging.
Upstream Shipping
-
Introduce a carbon-impact audit for all upstream shipping decisions, evaluating freight forwarders, routing, and transit types (prioritising low-emission options).
-
Provide annual internal import emission reports to all TBCo staff to improve transparency, knowledge, and collective decision-making.
Time-Bound Targets
To ensure continuous improvement, and hold us accountable to the Concrete Actions we have set the following operational targets. All percentage reductions are measured against our established 2023 baseline year.
Target 1 (Electricity)
-
Interim Target: Achieve a 5% reduction in total grid consumption by the end of FY 2028, driven by the rollout of our staff energy conservation policy.
-
Long Term Target: To reduce electricity consumption by 20% by the end of FY 2032.
Target 2 (Waste):
-
Interim Target: Reduce general waste to achieve 7% general waste mix by December 2028
-
Long Term Target: Reduce cardboard waste by 10% by end of FY 2030
Target 3 (Upstream Supply Chain)
-
Interim Target: Reduce total packaging material weight per order by 10% by the end of FY 2028.
-
Long Term Target: Fully map and accurately measure emissions from the purchase of goods from our top 3 suppliers by the end of FY 2029.
Target 4 (Upstream Shipping)
-
Interim Target: Reduce total air freight shipments by 25% by the end of FY 2028.
-
Long Term Target: Reduce total emissions associated with upstream shipping by 20% by the end of FY 2030.
Internal Responsibility & Accountability
Climate action is a leadership priority at TBCo.
Ultimate Accountability
Our Chief Executive Officer (Emma Macdonald) holds ultimate responsibility for our environmental strategy and the execution of this Climate Action Plan.
Operational Execution
The Senior Leadership Team holds responsibility for ensuring that all required climate data is being tracked systematically and that our concrete actions are being executed effectively by the relevant teams.
Tracking Progress
To accurately measure our progress against our 2023 baseline, TBCo will track and log the following data points on an bi-annual basis:
Electricity (Location-Based)
-
Total kilowatt-hours (kWh) consumed across our office, warehouse, and retail storefront (sourced from annual utility invoices).
Operational Waste
-
Total weight (in kilograms or tonnes) of general waste sent to landfill.
-
Total weight (in kilograms or tonnes) of cardboard and dry mixed recycling processed.
-
Our overall waste diversion rate (the percentage of total waste recycled vs. sent to landfill).
Upstream Supply Chain
-
Total average weight (in grams) of packaging materials used per online retail order fulfilled.
-
The number of our top 3 global suppliers with whom we have established a formal climate engagement plan to map energy baselines and share carbon-reduction best practices.
-
The percentage of new product designs that pass our internal Sustainable Design Principles checklist prior to manufacturing.
Upstream Shipping
-
The total number of inbound international shipments split by transit mode (percentage sent via air freight vs. sea/road freight).
-
Total weight (in tonnes) and distance travelled (in kilometres) of all incoming freight shipments (sourced from freight forwarder data).
Governance & Transparency
This Climate Action Plan has been formally reviewed and approved by the TBCo Board of Directors.
